How & Why
How and why
Built for the rider. Not for anyone else.
Most services touching bikes and riders have a commercial interest that is not perfectly aligned with yours. Modern Savage does not. Here is what that means, and why it matters.
The honest version
Everyone else has a reason to steer you.
A bike shop makes margin on the sale. A brand ambassador makes commission on the click. A content creator makes revenue on the view. None of those things are necessarily wrong, but they all mean the advice you're getting is coming from someone with a stake in your decision.
Modern Savage has no stake in what you decide. We do not sell bikes. We are not affiliated with brands. We do not run affiliate links, take referral fees, or earn anything from what you buy. The only thing we earn from is the work we do for you, directly.
That is not a marketing line. It is a structural fact about how this business operates. When there is no commercial reason to push you toward a particular outcome, the advice you get is the advice that actually fits your situation.
Sometimes that advice is to proceed. Sometimes it is to wait. And sometimes the most useful thing we can do is tell you clearly that the option you're considering is the wrong one, before you spend money finding that out yourself.
The way most advice works
- Shop recommends the bike they stock
- Brand content promotes the brand's products
- Affiliate links earn on what you click
- Reviews are shaped by access to future product
- The incentive and your interest are different things
How Modern Savage works
- No brands to sell, no margin to protect
- No affiliate links, no referral income
- No reason to find a problem that is not there
- No reason to miss one that is
- The only incentive is doing the job well
The most useful thing we have ever done
Saved someone from spending money they would not have got back.
The wrong bike costs more than money. It costs rides you did not enjoy, trail you did not push, confidence you did not build, and time you spent working around a setup that was never going to be right for you.
We are not a service that is paid to find problems, and we are not a service that is paid to make sales. We are paid to give you an accurate read on your situation. In some cases, the correct outcome of that read is not to proceed. That is a valid result, and sometimes the most valuable one.
What rider-side looks like in practice
Clear scope. Honest output. No obligation.
Defined work, defined outputs
Every service has a clear start and finish. You know what you are getting before we begin, and the output is written so you have something concrete to refer back to, not just a phone call you have to remember.
Independent assessment
The read you get on your bike, your setup, or your situation is the same read regardless of what you spend with us next. There is no upsell hidden in the process and no service inflated to justify the next one.
No obligation to proceed
At every stage, the next step is yours. We do not follow up repeatedly, we do not apply pressure, and we do not make you feel like stopping is the wrong decision. If it is not the right fit, we will tell you that too.
No affiliate noise
There are no links on this site that earn us money if you click them. No brand partnerships that shape what we say. No sponsored content dressed as advice. What you read here is what we actually think.
Where to start
Find the session that matches your stage.
The right starting point depends on where you are. If you are deciding between options before a purchase, start with the Suitability Assessment. If you already own the bike and want it set up properly, the Trailhead Fit and Suspension Setup is the core session. Coaching is available from October for riders who want to improve how they ride it, not just how it is set up.
Not sure which applies? The Suitability Assessment is the low-commitment entry point, a written PDF delivered by email, no calls, no pressure, and it does not funnel you into anything.
