Trailhead Bike Fit
Trailhead Bike Fit
Most riders don't fix a bad fit. They adapt to it.
The back pain after a long climb becomes normal. The numb hands on a descent become expected. Usually, the bike is wrong. Not the rider.
Structured, measurement-based MTB fit at the trailhead. On your actual bike. Validated where you actually ride.
Who this is for
Recognise yourself in one of these?
You don't need to be a high-performance rider to get value from a fit. If any of these are familiar, this is the session.
Hand numbness
Shows up mid-ride, gets worse on descents or longer climbs. Often a cockpit and weight distribution issue.
Lower back pain
Builds on longer climbs or extended time in the saddle. Usually position and reach.
Knee tracking issues
Pain on the inside or outside of the knee that correlates with pedalling. Often saddle height or fore/aft position.
Shoulder fatigue
Builds through a ride and limits how long you want to stay on the bike. Usually bar height and reach.
Saddle discomfort
Makes you dread anything over an hour. Contact point and saddle position.
General discomfort
The background noise of every ride. Nothing specific, but nothing feels right either.
What we cover
Four things, done properly.
Contact points
Hands, feet, and sit bones, every point where your body meets the bike. Small changes here have large effects downstream.
Saddle height and position
The most consequential fit variable on the bike. Wrong height contributes to knee pain, back fatigue, and inefficient pedalling.
Cockpit: reach, bar height, levers
Reach and bar height set your weight distribution front to rear. Lever angle affects wrist load and braking control on technical terrain.
Riding style and discipline
A trail rider and an enduro rider need different things from the same fit. We dial the session to match the terrain you actually ride.
How it works
One change at a time. Confirmed, not assumed.
-
01
Before the session
Bike details, your height and weight with riding gear, and a short note on where and how you ride. If you have specific pain, tell us, the more specific the better.
-
02
Static assessment
Measurements and a static assessment before touching anything. Then one adjustment at a time, each confirmed before the next.
-
03
Trail validation
Each change is validated on a short, repeatable trail section, so cause and effect stay clear. You'll understand what changed and why.
-
04
Written record
A written record of your fit: measurements, adjustments made, and the reasoning behind them, plus anything further that would help.
What you'll get
Less fighting the bike. More riding it.
A position that works for your body
Adjusted to your anatomy and riding style, not someone else's defaults.
Written fit record
All measurements and adjustments documented, a reference point you can return to.
Trail-validated changes
Every adjustment confirmed on real terrain, not assumed from a static position.
A clear next step, if needed
If fit isn't the only issue, you'll know what is, and what to do about it.
The outcome should feel obvious on the bike: less fighting, less fatigue, more ride.
Location and availability
Two modes, both honest about which applies.
Adelaide metro, bookable
Sessions run at nominated Adelaide trail networks, confirmed at booking. Trail choice is set after checkout based on terrain suitability and timing, since the method relies on repeatable sections, so not every network is appropriate.
Outside metro, request-first
Sessions may be available when travel aligns with our SA, VIC, NSW, and SEQ loop. We confirm feasibility based on location, timing, and trail suitability. If it doesn't line up, we'll tell you plainly, no vague maybes.
If you have a preferred network, include it in your request, we'll confirm if it's suitable.
Where this stops
Kept honest, on purpose.
One bike per session unless scoped otherwise. The bike needs to be in sound mechanical order, we're fitting position, not diagnosing faults. This is not medical advice or physiotherapy, persistent or severe pain needs a physio first. And this is a fit session, not ongoing coaching or a retainer. These boundaries keep the outcome clean and the session focused.
Pricing and booking
Start here, or go straight to the combined session.
Not sure which applies? Use the request option and we will point you to the right place. No obligation to proceed either way.
Questions
FAQ
Do I need to service my bike before a fit session?
The bike needs to be in sound mechanical order, brakes, drivetrain, steering. We're assessing fit and position, not diagnosing mechanical faults. If you're unsure of its condition, a pre-session inspection is a good first step.
How is this different from a fit at a bike shop?
Most shop fits happen indoors, on a stationary setup, and are brief. This session happens at the trailhead on your actual bike, validated on real terrain, specific to MTB rather than adapted from a road or studio methodology.
How long does it take?
Around 30 to 60 minutes for a standalone fit, since it does not include suspension work. The combined Bike Fit + Suspension Setup runs approx 2 hours. We don't rush the process either way.
I've had a fit before and it didn't help. Why would this be different?
Usually because the previous fit was done indoors, changes weren't validated under real riding conditions, or a position was assumed without checking how it performs on trail. Trail validation is the difference. If a change doesn't improve how the bike feels on a real section, it doesn't stay.
Can I book a fit and suspension setup as separate sessions?
Yes. Some riders want to address comfort first and revisit suspension later. That's a valid sequence. The combined session is more efficient and better value, but it's not mandatory.
What if I'm not sure whether I need a fit or a suspension setup?
Start with the fit. Position is the foundation. If suspension is also a factor, that conversation happens naturally once your position is established. A suspension tune built on a wrong position is still wrong.
Can we do two bikes?
Standard sessions cover one bike. If you need two bikes fitted, include that in your request and we'll confirm feasibility and scope.
Stop adapting to the bike. Fix the fit.
One session, at the trailhead, on your actual bike. Leave with a position that works and a written record of why.
